Eddy Current Coating Thickness Gauge
The eddy current coating thickness gaugesusing the eddy current principle is mainly used to measure the thickness of non-conductive coatings on non-magnetic substrates (such as brass, aluminum, copper or aluminum). The eddy current coating thickness gauge uses the eddy current principle of non-destructive measurement. This method determines the dry film thickness based on the intensity or level of eddy current induced in a metal by a probe containing a wire coil. The distance between the probe and the substrate (equal to the thickness of the coating) in turn affects the intensity of the eddy current. Therefore, the eddy current strength decreases as the coating thickness increases.
Eddy current coating thickness gauge has the advantages of high sensitivity and wide thickness measurement range, etc.It is a widely used non-destructive coating thickness gauge. However,as with other coating thickness gauges, its accuracy depends to a large extent on routine calibrations, correct working conditions, correct instrument operation and other factors. These factors that affect the accuracy of coating thickness gauges include but are not limited to the following:
1.Coating thickness–The user should check the measurement range of the instrument and the number of measurements to obtain accurate results.
2.Thickness and electrical properties of substrates-Eddy current coating thickness gauges can only be used when the conductivity of the coating is different from the conductivity of the substrate.Eddy current coating thickness gauges are usually designed in different styles based on the thickness of the substrate.
3.Surface profile and location of the test-avoid measuring near edges or areas where curvature occurs.
4.Smoothness of the tested surface and whether there are foreign objects. The probe should be kept clean. Foreign objects and the roughness of the tested surface may affect the probe's contact with the test surface.
5.User's operation and probe position-When measuring, you should hold the groove of the instrument firmly and press the probe vertically on the measured object surface. Avoid inaccurate measurement due to tilt and shake.
Linshang LS221 coating thickness gauge uses both Hall effect and eddy current effect measurement principles.Applicable to the measurement of non-magnetic coatings such as coatings, varnishes, enamels, chrome, galvanizing on ferromagnetic metal substrates such as steel and non-conductive coatings such as coatings, anodized layers or ceramics on non-magnetic metal substrates such as copper,aluminum,die-cast zinc and brass.A large number of standard plates are used for calibration during the research and development of the instrument. No calibration is required before each use and only zero adjustment is required, which brings great convenience to customers. The accuracy of the instrument is ≤ ± (3% of reading + 2μm). High accuracy is also one of the main reasons why this coating thickness gauge is taking the market by storm. In addition to this coating thickness gauge,Linshang Technology also developed the LS220,LS220B paint film gauge for the automotive industry,LS220H coating thickness gauge and LS223 fire-resistant coating thickness gauge. If you have any questions about coating thickness measurement, please call Linshang technical staff-134-2135-6708!
