Car paint meter is also known as car paint thickness tester. Usually we use paint meter for cars to test the car paint film thickness.

1. What is the normal thickness of the car paint?

QC/T 484-1999 "Automobile industry standard automotive paint coating" regulations:

  • A lacquer (high-class car body): The primer layer of the car should be no less than 20μm and the intermediate lacquer layer should be 40-50μm (excluding the thickness of the putty layer). The topcoat layer is between 60-80 μm.

  • B paint (intermediate car body): the primer layer is not less than 20μm, the middle layer is not less than 20μm and the topcoat layer is not less than 40μm.

From TQ1-TQ10, according to the different parts of the car, the thickness of the paint is different. So the requirements of the national regulations on the thickness of the paint are different.

2. Why should we evaluate used cars

For the new car, we use the paint meter for cars to test the car paint film thickness to determine whether the thickness meets the national standard. Now the price difference between new and used cars is relatively large, so many users may also choose used cars with higher cost performance. One of the problems that users may face when choosing a used car is how to value the used car. It is relatively easy for experienced used car appraisers. But for ordinary users who have no experience, we need to evaluate the used car with the help of the paint meter for cars.

3. How to use the paint meter for cars to evaluate second-hand car

paint meter for cars

We use the paint meter for cars to test the paint film thickness of used cars based on the roof, because the roof is the place where the probability of collision is the smallest. Take 5 points evenly on the roof and measure each point three times. Then we take the average values. Then average the 5 average values. Using this value as a reference value, the thickness of the paint film in other parts of the vehicle body is measured in the same manner. When the thickness of the paint film is greater than the value of the roof by more than 10-40 μm, it is a normal value. When the measured value is greater than this value, the car may have been repainted.

In fact,in the automotive paint film industry, the use of paint meter for cars is not only ordinary users. And there are many used car appraisers. Because the experienced second-hand car appraisers only judged by experience that somewhere in the car body was painted, they could not accurately judge the thickness of the paint. The paint thickness can only be judged by the paint meter for cars.

Paint meter for cars are used more and more widely in the used car evaluation industry, which will greatly help you in the choice of used cars.
