1. Working principle of the glossmeter

Glossmeter is a glossiness measurement equipment that people use to measure the surface gloss of objects. It can accurately reflect the value corresponding to different gloss levels. Its working principle is mainly based on a beam of light, that is, the ability to refract light by measuring the reflected light by generating the corresponding incident light. Among them, the gloss value of a piece of black glass with refractive index nD = 1.567 under ideal conditions to refract light is used as a reference standard. Because of the different types of glossmeters (high gloss, medium gloss and low gloss), there are slight differences in the standard samples we choose.

2. Practical application of glossmeter in different industries

(1) Application of glossmeter in ceramic industry

In the ceramic industry, workers will increase the brightness of the glaze to increase the gloss of the ceramic. Generally speaking, ceramics with good gloss give people a visual feeling: clean and shiny. This ceramic tile decoration in the room will enhance the overall decoration taste. The surface of the ceramic tile is smooth, very convenient to clean. There are also some ceramic tiles that have been polished (the processing technology of ceramic tiles), which can improve the problems of loose and porous ceramics and large pore spacing. Compared with traditional ceramic tiles, there is a prominent feature, which is that the appearance of gloss is good .
Ceramic industry practitioners often use a glossmeter to measure the actual gloss value of the ceramic surface. For high brightness, it will be matted and modified. For products with low gloss, it will be modified to enhance the gloss. In theory, polishing ceramics generally need to control the gloss value between 50-70 microns.

(2) Application of glossmeter in metal industry

Glossmeters have always been essential glossiness measuring instruments in the metal industry. For metal materials, on the one hand, we value its hardness, flexibility and density. On the other hand, we also pay great attention to its appearance decoration performance. Metal materials with better glossiness tend to attract eyeballs more easily and can create a variety of decorative styles. Different metal materials have different color gloss. For example, aluminum products tend to have a white gloss, while brass has a golden gloss.
The superior gloss of the metal materials surface comes from the reflection of light. In the metal manufacturing industry, in order to ensure that the metal gloss value meets standards, people often use professional glossmeters to measure. This kind of equipment can effectively avoid the deviation of naked eye recognition and make the data tend to be accurate.

(3) How to choose glossmeter?

The choice of glossmeter needs to be judged in combination with the actual situation. Generally speaking, for the metal industry and ceramic industry, those who need large-scale testing of the gloss value of the product should choose a glossmeter that can be connected to a computer and set the value to automatically determine whether it is qualified. Secondly, it should be noted that, because there is a large gap in the gloss value of the product surface, the glossmeter should choose a device with a larger range as much as possible to meet the basic testing needs.
