1. Basic Knowledge of Glossmeter

The main function of the glossmeter is to measure the object surface gloss, that is, to check the ability of the object to refract light into the eye. In daily life, there are also many people who refer to glossiness as brightness. This theory is a fairly abstract concept, so when we measure gloss, we can use a glossmeter to visually compare.

2. Factors that affect the gloss of ink prints

In the ink printing products industry, people evaluate the quality of the product in addition to the clarity of the handwriting and its gloss. The ink has good fluidity, it will form a bright film substance after spraying and drying. In order to improve the quality (glossiness) of ink products in the industry, it often starts from the following aspects.

(1) Pigment particle size and dispersion

In actual printing, different types of pigments have different qualities. Larger pigment particles are uneven during spraying, making it difficult to present a smooth oil film. The smaller pigment particles are well dispersed and can be evenly dispersed. The overall gloss is significantly enhanced. In general, the more evenly spaced the particles, that is, the better the dispersion, the better the final film formation effect.

(2) Transparency of ink

In theory, inks with high transparency can refract stronger light. Complex reflection forms make the color effect more abundant. In contrast, inks with low transparency only come from the surface reflecting light. The gloss effect is not as good as transparent inks.

(3) The gloss of the material

Whether the ink printing products can produce strong gloss mainly depends on the gloss of the connecting material. The main component of the connecting material is resin. The conjunctiva formed after a series of processing has superior smoothness and looks brighter. Compared with the binder made of early vegetable oils, this kind of binder has a higher gloss and smoothness.

(4) Solvent penetration rate

In the printing process, as the subsequent steps continue to increase, the gloss of ink products will slowly decrease. Our professional construction staff will dry and solidify later. While the solvent continues to penetrate into the paper, its speed greatly affects the finished product gloss. Generally speaking, the slower the penetration rate of the solvent, the oxidative polymerization of the resin material can make the surface highly smooth. The final gloss of this ink printed product is very high.

3. Glossmeter in ink printing industry

The glossmeter can be used to detect the surface gloss of ink products. Under normal circumstances, the finished products with high gloss have good smoothness, the surface is oily enough. The printed products have clear handwriting. Ink prints with low glossiness are too dry and prone to cracking, which is not conducive to intuitive reading.
The measurement effect of the glossmeter is undoubtedly recognized in the industry. It can quickly quantify the gloss of different objects and provide professional guidance to the industry.
